DreadHaunt is the latest installment from the expanding , an Indonesian horror series that started with DreadOut in May 2014 developed by Digital Happiness. A massive demonic possession has turned the country into a state of emergency. As a fresh recruit of a class E field agent, you must Secure, Content, and Protect the source of evil to further investigate and save your country in the process. The series has since then gained not only national but also global recognition. Furthermore, the series have achieved multiple awards, such as “the Best Indonesian PC Game” at Kotakgame Awards 2016 through DreadOut: Keeper of the Dark and “the Game of the Year” at Indonesia Gaming Award 2020 through DreadOut 2. DreadOut was also awarded as one of the “20 Rising Global Stars” by Forbes Indonesia in 2017.

Objective

Co-developed with Agate, Digital Happiness designed DreadHaunt as a PC multiplayer horror game that tests your co-op and PVP skills. The story sets you and your friends as five agents joining a ghost hunt; one of you would be a deceiver who’s unknowingly possessed by a bloodthirsty spirit that has the urge to slaughter the whole team. The rest of the agents must use their problem-solving skills to investigate who the odd one out is while still trying to survive the haunting.

Ideation
Our first aim is to create an experience that is similar to a carnival haunted house, thrilling together with friends.
Pre-Production
Pre-production started with two teams working parallelly between the art team and the programming team. Several multiplayer mockup gameplay mode was made to be later added into a core architecture program for the later production phase. While the art team mostly follows the rules defined by the programming team.
Production
The team builds the game using modified-based Unreal Engine 4 for creating an Expandable customization-based architecture design that can be widely developed for GAAS (Game as a Service). From characters, emojis, gameplay modifiers, and game modes. Also, EOS (Epic Online Service) to implement further iteration for cross-play.
