Responsibilities
- Involve in all areas of game programming such as game logic, user interface, AI/NPC behavior, and backend services using Roblox’s DataStore and remote events/functions.
- Write robust, performant Luau code that can scale to a large concurrent player base.
- Work as part of a team, with room to take ownership on individual features or systems.
- Support and contribute new ideas to game design and mechanics.
- Translate game design objectives into working gameplay mechanics and systems.
- Create design/technical documents to clarify coding requirements for review by team leads.
- Build initial prototypes to demonstrate gameplay ideas and features quickly.
- Debug and resolve issues found by QA or other team members.
- Maintain and update technical documentation for tools and systems built.
- Stay current with Roblox platform updates, Luau best practices, and new engine features (e.g. new services, DataStore updates, performance tooling).
- Optimize gameplay code and server/client performance (network usage, script performance, memory) in collaboration with internal teams.
- Perform iterative testing and debugging throughout development.
- Refine code based on feedback from the team lead.
- Research new techniques, plugins, or systems that could improve the game experience.
- Support the game through various builds/updates until and after release, including live-ops support.
Requirements
- At least 1 year of experience creating games (personal, freelance, or professional).
- At least 6 months of hands-on experience with Roblox Studio and Luau (Lua).
- A gamer; your passion for videogames is what drove you to the industry.
- Self-motivated, fast learner, and comfortable working in a team.
- Strong understanding of object-oriented and event-driven programming concepts.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Takes initiative to solve problems and communicates clearly.
- Open to exploring a wide variety of ideas to improve player experience.
- Understanding of client-server architecture in Roblox (FilterEnabled, RemoteEvents/Functions, security implications of exploits).
Pluses
- Previous professional experience in game development (Roblox or otherwise).
- Published Roblox experiences with meaningful player counts, please share the game link and explain your role in it.
- Experience with Roblox monetization systems (Gamepasses, Developer Products, UGC).
- Familiarity with version control (e.g. Git, or Roblox’s built-in versioning/Rojo workflow).
